Description of Materials Used to Make PanelCraft^® Honeycomb or Polystyrene Roof Panels

Aluminum – Low weight, medium strength, and good corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance derives from an oxide film that forms over the raw metal once it has been exposed to atmospheric surroundings inhibiting further oxidation. Alloying (the addition of other elements such as copper, magnesium silicon and manganese) is used to increase the strength of the aluminum.

Extruded Polystyrene Foam – Begins with solid polystyrene crystals. The crystals, along with special additives and a blowing agent, are fed into an extruder. Within the extruder the mixture is combined and melted, under controlled conditions of high temperature and pressure, into a viscous plastic fluid. The hot, thick liquid is then forced in a continuous process through a dye. As it emerges from the dye, it expands into foam – shaped, cooled, and trimmed to dimension. This continuous extrusion process results in a unique foam product with a uniform closed-cell structure, a smooth continuous skin, and consistent product qualities that are unequaled by other types of insulation.

Extruded polystyrene has a well established reputation for long–term reliability and superior resistance to the elemental forces of nature: time, water, cold, heat, and pressure.

Honeycomb – Long known in nature as the structural form of beehives, “honeycomb" construction is widely used today in the building, furniture and transportation industries. Its strong, lightweight properties make it ideal for sandwich panel construction. The honeycomb used in Betterliving roof systems is a specially treated Kraft that is highly resistant to moisture, fungus, heat and cold, and insect damage. It is treated to meet fire safety standards and will not sustain combustion.

PanelCraft^® products undergo extensive testing in certified materials testing laboratories. Load tests are performed routinely on randomly selected panels pulled from the manufacturing floor. The tests are carried out in accordance with recommendations outlined in ASTM R–72–80.

Betterliving Patio Covers and Carports, properly installed, are warranted by the manufacturer for PanelCraft® Enclosures to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of fifteen (15) years from the date of purchase.
