WHO IS FLAT ANDY — AND WHY?

Have your children or grandchildren been involved in a project at school where they make paper cut-outs of themselves, and send them to friends or family in other parts of the country?  Their friends take the cut-outs to visit places of interest in their area, and send back photos, post cards and letters about the adventure.   Students can plot their imaginary travels on maps and share photos and letters.  

So where does Flat Andy come in? If you visit www.craftbilt.com, you will read the history of Craft-Bilt Manufacturing Company, and learn how the president, Andy Stone, took over the company following the death of his father, who started Craft-Bilt in 1946.

Andy is responsible for starting the Betterliving Patio and Sunroom program shortly after he became president of the company in 1985. Since then, hundreds of sun room homeowners have written to Andy telling him how pleased they are with their Betterliving patio or sunroom addition, and inviting him to stop by if he is ever in the area.

The people who work for Andy know he is a pretty great guy who loves his work, but he doesn’t get out much. So the marketing department decided to create a cut-out “Flat Andy” who could visit our sunroom owners on his behalf.

Our Flat Andy is a life size stand up figure who is so real looking, his dog Max went nuts when he saw it. His two children took a photo with the real Andy and Flat Andy and titled it “My Two Dads.”  We sent Flat Andy on the road, to visit Betterliving sunrooms across the US and Canada. In our office, we have journals, photo albums and posters showing Flat Andy’s adventures from Maine to Mississippi.

Flat Andy has been known to play a few practical jokes on the real Andy too…like hiding Andy’s business suit the night of our annual Betterliving sunroom awards banquet….performing karaoke with the installation training classes…and coming to a sales event wearing ….well, never mind. Maybe the real Andy doesn’t have a sense of humor…but Flat Andy is another story!
